RED Scientific are proud to announce that we have offset a residual 26 tonnes of CO2e emissions through projects bought from Ecologi, an environmental organisation based in Bristol.
Ecologi is a platform for Climate Action, helping individuals, families and businesses become Climate Positive. They do this by reducing your carbon footprint through the funding of quality climate solutions. From a standing start in mid 2019, Ecologi is now considered a market leader having funded the planting of over 25 million trees and offset nearly 950,000 tonnes of CO2e.
The climate projects RED Scientific has supported include:
- A wind power project in Thailand:
- This project will avoid 131,883 tCO2e from entering our atmosphere each year of its operation, which equates to a total of 1,318,830 tCO2e over 10 years! The project began in 2018 and will run for 25 years, with a renewable crediting period every 10 years.
- Preventing deforestation in the Democratic Republic of Congo:
- This is the first project of its kind in the Congo Basin, and will protect 248,956 hectares of forest from industrial logging, unsustainable fuel wood extraction, and slash and burn agriculture.
- On average, the project will be credited with reducing 5,671,613 tonnes of CO2e emissions per year throughout the project’s 31 year lifespan, totalling over 175 million tonnes of avoided emissions!
The 26 tonnes of CO2e that RED has offset is equivalent to one of the following:
- 20 long haul flights;
- 78 metres2 of sea ice saved;
- 64,506 miles driven in a car.
