Contract win: Rutherford Appleton Lab Operational Analysis

ISIS_logoRED is pleased to announce that we have been selected to carry out work to support the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory.  RED has been tasked with reviewing the ISIS operating model with the aim of compressing research times on their neutron and muon sources.

Initially, RED’s Dr Steve Coulson will conduct a number of on-site interviews with ISIS directors and review ISIS’s recent annual reports & operational data to determine what performance data is currently produced and to understand the accuracy of the information.

Based on these interviews and the information review, a number of suitable measures of effectiveness and performance will be identified for further study. In particular, Steve will develop a measure of scientific value for ISIS research papers published in peer-reviewed journals. This will based on the journal impact factor, the number of citations for the paper in other journal articles and the read history of the paper. Other performance measures will look at auditing investment decisions and efficiency improvements.

We are delighted to be supporting a world-leading centre for research in the physical and life sciences.
